Scira recruits for the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm

Now that the transition from construction to operation of the Sheringham Shoal Wind Farm has been successfully achieved, Scira Offshore Energy is seeking to expand its maintenance team. Advertisements for a Trainee Mechanical Engineer will appear in the local media w/c 21 January 2013.

HR & Communications Manager Liz Hancock says: "We are looking for graduates in Mechanical Engineering with a positive outlook and strong interpersonal and planning skills. Above all, they must show a commitment to achieving high quality results in a safety conscious environment."

Scira's training programme will be on-going, with successful candidates benefiting from in-house development within a comprehensive, structured, two-year programme. "The company has a commitment to support the development of its staff," Ms Hancock goes on to say. "We want people to be able to take advantage of the varied positions that will be created by the offshore wind industry in our region."

Scira aims to encourage local young people into a career in the growing renewables industry, and has already appointed 22-year old Gary Lorimer from nearby South Creake to its marine co-ordination team. In order to continue to fulfil this commitment, Scira has developed a strong relationship with local schools and colleges. It recently introduced a bursary fund to help up to 20 budding engineers from low-income families, with travel or other course-related expenses while studying for a BTEC Diploma in Engineering Level 3 at the College of West Anglia, Great Yarmouth College or City College, Norwich.

As one of North Norfolk's larger employers, and being at the forefront of the local offshore wind energy industry, Scira can offer exciting career opportunities to the right candidates.

With effect from the end of January 2013, Scira Offshore Energy will be based in its new purpose-built, state-of-the-art O&M base 3 miles south of Wells-next-the-Sea.
