Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm has agreed to help fund the Plumstead Parish Council's project to rejuvenate the overgrown and neglected village pond and upgrade the adjoining land.
Parish Council Chairman David Ramsbotham says the pond project will provide a haven for wildlife and a tranquil and environmentally friendly area for villagers and others to enjoy.
The Plumstead project consists of dredging the pond, clearing scrub, providing native water plants and shrubs and planting the meadow with wildflowers. Gates, fencing, notice boards and other sundry items will also be erected.
Work on the pond is due to start in September/October this year and will be organised and managed by the Parish Council who will use external contractors. This project was selected to offset some of the disruption the local community will experience as the wind farm's onshore cable route passes directly through Plumstead.
The Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm is being developed by Scira Offshore Energy Limited, which is jointly owned by Statoil and Statkraft. Statoil will be the operator for the project during the development phase.
